Michelin Madrid Bib Gourmand: Treze Restaurant

My husband and I have decided to try out some Michelin restaurants in Madrid since we live near so many Michelin restaurants here. I like to eat in a place where I know I can’t make the food at home, and Michelin narrows down our choices of restaurants in Madrid since we don’t eat out a lot.

For this occasion, my husband and I went to out to celebrate both Valentine’s Day and Father’s Day. It was a belated Valentine’s Day because our entire family got covid during valentine’s. We were in quarantine for around 3 weeks, because it was a chain of my son, me, and my husband getting it one after another, and before you know it, it was already March, and it’s already Father’s Day in Spain.

It’s a little bit expensive to eat in the starred Michelin restaurants, so for the moment, we’re trying out the Madrid Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurants. The Bib Gourmand restaurants only range around 40 euros each person for a complete meal.

Michelin Bib Gourmand Madrid Treze

In reviewing Michelin-rated restaurants, I’ve decided to categorize them into the following: Location, Interiors, Food, and Service.

For this review, we’re doing Treze restaurant.

Location: 5/5

Treze Restuarant is in Goya, near my husband’s office and his mom’s apartment. It is also a 25-minute walk from our place. I love this area, Goya. This is where I do most of my shopping. They have an El Corte Ingles, a lot of restaurants, and a lot of shops around.

Treze is in Calle General Pardinas and is quite near El Corte Ingles. It’s in a very central area, and for this reason, the location is 5/5. Outstanding. Outside, it’s quite an unassuming place. You can eat out in the terraza or inside. Inside, they have an area if you’re gonna eat menu del dia (which is available during lunch only and around 14 euros per person) or if you decide to eat a la carte, they will seat you in another area. Since we’re trying the food, we are doing a la carte.

Interiors: 5/5

The interiors is 5/5. Treze Restuarant has beautiful, spacious interiors. Inside (if you decide to order ala carte), there is even an indoor garden but separated by glass. It gives a nice aesthetic, though.

Food: 5/5

The food in Treze Restaurant is also outstanding. Everything that we ordered was yummy. What I liked most about Treze is that I could order in medio (half) portions. This allowed me and my husband to have variety because we could order and try more types of food.

We got the pan at 2.50 euros each which consists of unlimited bread, aperitivo, and petit fours. The aperitivo was bread with butter and salchichon. The petit fours was given at the end and consisted of some sweet desserts. You can find their menu here.

My husband got me house wine, and surprisingly, the house wine was actually good. Usually, house wines of restaurants taste bad, but this one was good, like it was a bottle that was just opened.

To start, we had the burrata salad, molleja de ternera, and tomato on foccacia bread. The good thing about their starters is you can order a half or an entire order. This allowed us to taste different starters at good prices. Everything we ordered for the starter was a half order. I liked the burrata salad, loved the molleja, but you can skip the tomato on foccacia (which surprisingly was the most expensive starter that we ordered).

For the main course, I got the duck (pato azulon) which was completely divine with the foie. That foie was just really melt-in-your-mouth amazing.

My husband got the carillera which was also really good and soft.

For dessert, we got the chocolate treze, which was also good.

Service: 5/5

The service was also outstanding. They explained the ingredients of every dish to us. We felt special, we did not feel hurried at all.

All in all, it was a good meal that you couldn’t even cook at home. Our entire bill was 80 euros for both of us. Treze Restaurant was the very first Michelin-rated restaurant I ate in. It set the bar for me, because I thought most Michelin-rated restaurants would be the same. It wasn’t. Some Michelin-rated Bib Gourmand restaurants were small. Some were located in a smaller road. Some had crappy service. But Treze Restuarant did not disappoint.

Overall, this is a 5/5 restaurant for me. Great location, spacious interiors, delicious food with great portions, and outstanding service. I will return.
