Michelin Madrid Bib Gourmand: La Monteria

Prawn, Fish, and Rice

Two months ago, my friends and I visited another Bib Gourmand restaurant in Madrid called La Monteria. Everytime we meet up, we try a new Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant just to compare and see which ones we would return to. Here in La Monteria, we ordered the Classic Menu which was 42 euros each. With drinks, we paid around 45 euros each.

Location: 5/5

La Monteria has a nice location near Parque Retiro and the Ibiza metro.

Interiors: 3.5/5

I’m very particular about interiors. The dining area of La Monteria was very simple. Not fussy at all. It was also a small, simple rectangular area. Nothing about the interiors inside the dining area stood out to me.

Food: 4/5

The food in La Monteria, on the other hand, stood out with its great flavor and delicious ingredients. It was definitely value for money.

It’s hard to get a reservation here. You can’t do it the same day. My husband and I tried to get a same-day reservation here but it was full. We reserved around 5 days in advance for La Monteria.

Their classic menu was good. There were some hits and misses, but mostly it was good. Maybe if we ordered a la carte, it might have even been better. We started with this crispy shrimp which you could eat whole, even with the head. I don’t think it was part of the classic menu, it was a free tapa.

The red tuna was divine. The prawn with fish and rice, the solomillo, and the dessert were amazing. The salad looked really appetizing, but there was some fish in it which was a little bit salty. All in all, however, I thought it was good value for money because they used a lot of seafood in their ingredients. Here’s the full Classic Menu that we ordered.

Bonito en Escabeche de coco y pimineto al carbón

Gamba gabardina invertida

Atún rojo con brotes soja y salmorejo

Ensalada templada de perdiz

Merluza con arroz y gamba roja

Solomillo de venado con vino y foie

Bizcocho de cafe con tiramisú helado

Café

Service: 3/5

The service, though fast, leaves much to be desired. They simply put the plate down and would explain the dish without any finesse. Or maybe it’s just me. I would go back to La Monteria, but this time, order a la carte.
